              On the 5th of last February a Conference about “ Discrimination in the workplace because of age and elderlies” (EU Directive 2000/78) took place in the IMSERSOS’s Assembly Hall in Madrid, and was organized by the Spanish Confederation of  Elderlies Associations (CEOMA).

            In the opening ceremony the following people took part: Mr. José Carlos Baura, IMSERSO’s Planning, Allocation and Evaluation  Assistant Manager; Mrs Anouk Moulder, AGE’s Vice-President; and Mr. Eduardo Rodríguez Rovira, CEOMA’s President. Mr. Manuel Aguilar Belda, Assistant Ombudsman, carried out the Opening Conference.

            On the first round table, themed on Institutions and Society versus discrimination in the workplace”, our President Mr. Roberto López acted as a discussion leader and, in addition, there were speeches given by Mr. Adolfo Bañón, Director of the Association of Young enterprisers; Mrs. Estrella Rodríguez Pardo, Director of the Red Crosse’s Projects; and Mr. Eugenio Martín Falero, Employment Corporate Manager in the Autonomous Community of Madrid.

On the second table, themed on “European Policies in relation with discrimination”, the discussion leader was Mrs. Sally Kennedy, President of AGE Concern in Spain, and Mr. Vicente Pérez Pelayo, Labour and Social Affairs chief executive advisor in Spain’s Permanent Mission before the European Union gave the speeches. Also, two Working Groups were created: “Institutional Declarative” and “High- Priority problems to be resolved when referring to the elderlies discrimination”. The aims intended were reached because the Directive 2000/78’s contents were thoroughly analysed and also its transposal to the Spanish Legislation through the 2004 Law of Accompanying to the General Budget, and the main  priorities treated by the working groups were shown.
